Hey Y’all!
I am a wife, mother of two, freelance writer, author and blogger. I write candidly on my struggles with postpartum depression and anxiety and PTSD. I want to change the conversation so that people feel more comfortable discussing these issues so we can overcome the shame and stigmas attached.
I currently live in Greensboro, NC with my husband, 2 children and rescue mutt. I marvel at how certain people live their lives in a harmonious balance and “have their shit together” while I can’t even have my groceries delivered and have taken the wrong kid to school on the wrong day. I bitch about how expensive everything has gotten but I figure out a way to afford what we really need and some of what we want and spend /waste $$ on fancy, Japanese face cream and lattes because I’m worth it… and I have a coffee problem: level Gilmore Girls.
I refer to my style and voice as “elevated casual”. I read Shakespeare but I also know who Kim and Kanye are and know more about The Golden Girls than you. In fact, the title of this website is from one of my favorite quotes from Macbeth, “screw your courage to the sticking place and we’ll not fail.” More than once, I’ve had to find that place inside me to fight my way out of a bad situation and change that situation into something better. Despite my love of fancy, learned literature, I use the words “smidge” or “smidge and a half” as an actual unit of measure, overuse the word “ya’ll” and use more than my fair share of “adult words” and homespun turns of phrases such as “nuttier than a squirrel turd” or “hotter than a $2 pistol.” I am a Blanche… and also a Dorothy. I am sometimes short-tempered but I am loyal and I can fix anything with double-sided tape. Well, anything except bad grammar.
I believe there is a certain charm in not having your “shit together” (although I am a bit baffled by the etymology of that turn of phrase), and if you also believe that, I think you will find me quite charming.
