This is an affiliate post, but as you may have seen in my other posts, I really do use Vital Proteins and put it in everything! These are my opinions, but I am not a medical professional. Seek advice if you have concerns.

In January of last year, I had a horrible bout of insomnia. I was miserable. My family was miserable. My health and appearance, especially my skin and hair, were dismal. I was having probably the worst skin of my life and my hair hadn’t fared much better. My hair was gorgeous, long and plush with my pregnancies, but while breastfeeding my daughter, I lost a fifth of my hair. This is not an exaggeration. As you know, my skin is my “thing.” Having the Worst Skin Ever whilst also being practically bald was making me crazy and miserable.

It was around this time that I discovered Vital Proteins Collagen. My hair was still growing back at the rate of a snail slugging through peanut butter and my skin was acne prone, dull and saggy. I read collagen could be the answer to my problems, and it was! Well, the combination of collagen and sleep was the answer to my problems.

It took a couple weeks to get the sleep situation sorted out, but once it was, I was determined to get my body, hair and skin back into shape. It isn’t called beauty sleep for nothing, but once I started adding collagen powder to my diet, my hair started growing back. Really growing back. And my skin cleared right up and started to appear dewier and more glowing. I also started noticing serious improvements as a result of my workouts.

I started my journey with the marine collagen powder that I purchased on sale at Whole Foods. I began putting it in what I called a “Pretty Skin Smoothie”, but it I also could’ve called it “Grow My Hair Back Smoothie” or “Fountain of Youth Smoothie.” Yes, ya’ll, that is what we are going to call it. Hereto forth, it shall be called “The Fountain of Youth Smoothie”!

Fountain of Youth Smoothie

Ya’ll I am southern, I don’t really do what you call “measure ingredients”. I “eyeball it” or wait until I hear the Holy Spirit tell me to stop. These measurements are very loose. They are really more guidelines than measurements. You do you.

1 quarter to 1 half papaya
1 half cup of local mixed berries, frozen
Pinch of frozen kale and/or spinach
About a half cup of oat milk
1-2 scoops of Marine Collagen powder https://www.vitalproteins.com/products/marine-collagen-peptides
Chia or flax seeds*
Blend to desired texture and sip or top with granola* and eat with a spoon!

*Optional, but recommended

Now I add Vital Proteins Collagen to almost every food and beverage I consume. You can use it in hot or cold beverages and it retains its molecular integrity up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. I slipped some to my picky husband after his knee surgery. It quickly earned an MVP spot in our pantry.

I wish I had known about the Blueberry Moon Milk Latte back in January of last year! Blueberry Moon Milk Latte does double duty of being a collagen delivery system as well as a nightcap. Made with melatonin, ashwagandha, GABA, magnesium and other sleep-loving ingredients, it gently lulls you to sleep while filling your belly with a light but filling nighttime snack but in the form of a relaxing, hot beverage. Did I mention it is gluten and dairy free? Yet despite being dairy free, it is creamy and dreamy. I have slept very well every single time I used this product. https://www.vitalproteins.com/collections/collagen-lattes/products/blueberry-moon-milk-collagen-latte

I think next time I may try the hot cocoa one. I don’t dislike the blueberry flavor, but I am definitely a chocolate lover and could really use a healthier alternative to my weekly hot cocoa fix. The hot cocoa flavor also has the ashwagandha, a stress-busting herb, in it as well. Count me in!

Offers are linked below. If you try one of these, let me know in the comments how you liked it! Or, share one of your own recipes that I can try!
